Reddit chatter vs market sentiment

How much each of the 34 AI silicon names is being discussed on Reddit, beside the price-based sentiment score for the same stock. Two different measurements on one row — the chatter is never an input to the score, and the gap between them is the thing worth reading.

Counts cover a rolling 24 hours and refresh roughly twice an hour.

Where the two disagree

Western Digital is second most discussed of the 30 names being talked about, and 30th on market sentiment (9, frozen). Running the other way, Synopsys sits second on sentiment (86) while ranking 25th on chatter.

Neither gap is a signal in either direction, and it is worth being blunt about why. A stock can be heavily posted about because it is falling, so volume of discussion carries no direction at all. What the pairing does show is where retail attention and price behaviour have come apart — which is a question, not an answer, and neither column raises it alone.

What this is, and what it is not

A mention is one post naming the ticker, counted once however many times it says it. Titles and self-text only — comments are not read, which makes these numbers smaller than trackers that include them, and that is not an error.

None of it touches the sentiment score. That number is built from price and volume alone, which is what lets anyone rebuild it from a daily bar series and check our working. A crowd measure folded into it would be unreproducible by definition, so this page sets the two beside each other and does no arithmetic between them.

Common questions

Which AI stocks is Reddit talking about right now?

Micron Technology (MU) with 291 posts, Western Digital (WDC) with 157 posts, NVIDIA (NVDA) with 102 posts over the last 24 hours across the stock subreddits this site crawls.

Do Reddit mentions predict stock prices?

No. A mention count measures attention, not direction or quality - a stock can be heavily discussed precisely because it is collapsing. Posts can also be ironic, coordinated or off-topic. It belongs beside a price measure, never inside one.

Does Reddit chatter affect the ChipSentiment market sentiment score?

No, and deliberately not. The score is built entirely from price and volume - momentum, relative strength, trend, volume, volatility and drawdown - so anyone can rebuild it from a daily bar series and check it. Folding a crowd measure into it would destroy that property, which is the most valuable thing about the number. The two are shown side by side and the gap between them is left to the reader.
